National Assisted Living Week was first established by the NCAL (National Center for Assisted Living) in 1995. According to the NCAL this week “provides a unique opportunity for residents, families, staff and volunteers, and the surrounding community to come together to give residents a variety of exciting events and activities that show them how much you care about them and love them.” The theme for 2013 is Homemade Happiness. In honor of NALW (National Assisted Living Week), here are a few of assisted living facilities we here at Watkins Architect have had the pleasure of being a part of:
Sacred Heart Villa
We were honored to offer planning, design and construction observation services for the renovation of the existing convent building into a new 99-unit assisted care facility located in Muhlenberg, PA. Renovations consisted of a complete interior remodel which comprised of complete ADA upgrades, a new main entrance lounge porch and ramp. Also, renovations of the main facility’s dining room, kitchen and fellowship hall were provided.
Grand View Manor
We were fortunate to provide the planning and design for the new assisted living wing for the existing retirement home located in Fleetwood, PA. The addition design included 13 suites with individual handicapped accessible bathrooms. Additional space renovations included the visiting, television and reading areas for the residents and their visiting families and friends.
The Highlands
We have had the pleasure to provide services for various projects for The Highlands located in Wyomissing, PA. One project was to provide renovations and an addition to an existing farmhouse that would be used for elderly housing and assisted living. In addition to the farmhouse, we provided renovations for several existing apartments for the continuing care community. Services that were included were design layouts to modify the existing units and providing code compliance documentations. Apartment types for the retirement community range from studio units to two bedroom units that are customizable to suit the incoming tenant.
